Light Up Winter

Are you ready to Light Up Winter? This weekend (9th and 10th July), Cromwell will have plenty of reasons to get out and brave the cold at Infinite Energy Light Up Winter.

Keen photographers will learn how to capture the night sky on Friday night at the Winterstellar Astrophotography course up at Scott Base. While they are learning the craft, the youth will start the party early in The Mall at Winter Glow – Silent Disco.

The main event on Saturday will see the Cromwell Mall come alive with sparkling lights, live entertainment, and a vibrant night market that is sure to chase away the cold.

“Light Up Winter is always a fun night out for the whole family, and we love seeing everyone come out and enjoy the celebrations,” says Gretchen Nightingale of the Cromwell & Districts Promotion Group (CDPG).

The fun starts at 4:30pm in the Cromwell Library Craft Cave where the kids can get their faces painted and channel their inner artist. While the kids are busy, the adults can admire the ‘Wish Upon a Star Art’ Competition entries and have a browse through the night market in The Mall. Local singer, Micha, will kick off the night’s entertainment on stage at 5pm, followed by Dave and Martin from Victory fame.

The mass lantern release will happen at 6pm on the Big Fruit Reserve. Lanterns for the release are still available and can be purchased from SBS Cromwell for $10 each.

After the lantern release, it’s back to The Mall for the Light Up Your Hat competition parade. Once all the prizes have been given out, local band, Ord Road, will get the party started with their vibey reggae rock covers.

“This year we will have food options galore,” says Gretchen. “From lasagna and meatballs, to pizza, waffles, dumplings, bacon butties and more, there will be something to suit everyone’s taste.”
