football is still on

Although literally scores of school and age-group sports tournaments have been cancelled recently… age group rep football for Central kids is still on.

That’s the welcome news after Football South decided against cancelling its school holiday tournament in Dunedin next month.

“For many school sports, Covid has caused cancellations two years in a row.

It’s just not fair on the kids” says Cromwell Central’s Under-15 manager Michael Laws.

“You can run safe tournaments under the Covid rules. Dunedin’s community football tournament is a great example.”

The Under 15 Cromwell Central squad includes players from both Alexandra and Cromwell – with a couple of players being selected for both the Under 13 and Under 15 tournament teams.

The under-15 tournament team is:

Jacob Bromby, Tommy Coney, Julius Gorman, Jamie Tate-Bell (all Alex) Baxter Christiansen, Theo Emeny, Sam Jones, Daniel Jorgensen, Johnathan Jorgensen, Theo Laws, Bianca McElhinney, Lucas Tickle and Blake Wallis (all Cromwell).

A practice game versus the Cromwell/Alexandra U13 squad has been arranged for this Saturday 11am at the Alpha Street grounds in Cromwell.

“There is no way in the world that the U15s will want to be upstaged by their younger counterparts,’ says Mr Laws. “It should be fun. Spectators are welcome. It’s probably the closest we will all get to live sport for a while.”
