Neighbourhood Support
Neighbourhood Support New Zealand

Recently, Neighbourhood Support Cromwell held its AGM. The Trustees are Linda Chamberlain, Kay Dixon, Sylvia Giles (Secretary), Barbara Lloyd, Stephen Pullar (Deputy Chairperson) and Murray Whitworth (Chairperson).

In his annual report the Chairperson expressed thanks to Mercedes Fischer who was the Coordinator during the first COVID lockdown and did a very good job until she and her partner left Cromwell.

He also thanked the present Coordinator, Karen Palmer, for the excellent work she is doing for Neighbourhood Support Cromwell. Neighbourhood Support Cromwell works in close partnership with the Cromwell Community Patrol and is supported by the Cromwell Police, with Constable Mike Petitclerc being the Police Liaison Officer.

Many residents regard Cromwell as being a safe place and therefore do not see the need for a formal Neighbourhood Support organisation. Despite this, Neighbourhood Support Cromwell has more than 26 neighbourhood groups in Cromwell and over 360 households participating.

The organisations challenge is to strengthen relationships within neighbourhoods and thus build a resilient community that can respond effectively in times of emergency or disaster and has the capability to address criminal activity and antisocial behaviour.

It also aims to build a caring community where neighbours look out for and help and support each other.

If you want to find out more about Neighbourhood Support then drop in and talk to the Coordinator, Karen at Cromwell Community House.
