Kaitūao o te Taitonga | Volunteer South want to assure volunteers and all organisations they work with that they are still able to access their services under the Red traffic light setting.
Established over 35 years ago, the charity supports, strengthens, promotes and celebrates volunteering across Dunedin and outlying areas, Central Lakes and in proud partnership with the Citizens Advice Bureau in Invercargill.
Like many organisations, Volunteer South is making changes to the way they work in line with national recommendations and requirements. More working from home and more Zoom meetings, but the message is clear – “we are still here!”
“We are still here to support organisations with all their volunteer needs and individuals looking to connect with their community through volunteering,” says Volunteer South’s CEO Sues Russell.
“We continue to list and update volunteer opportunities on our website, Facebook groups, community Apps and newsletters, where volunteers can browse roles and express an interest in roles they want to explore. For volunteers preferring more guidance or organisations keen to talk about their needs; we invite you to get in touch with us and we will arrange the most appropriate way to chat.”
“As we continue our services and support of volunteering, we are committed to remain as accessible and safe as possible under this new framework for all.” Sue said.
In addition to changing COVID requirements, Volunteer South has seen considerable staff changes, with key staff moving on and new people joining the team. The team is taking the opportunity to take stock of their position in the community and voluntary sector and are looking ahead to a positive future with many exciting opportunities on the horizon that the team are keen to embrace.
“The last two years, working under COVID, has seen relationships develop and new ways of working across the community sector. With that comes opportunities to work together in new and exciting ways. We are looking forward to the year ahead and whilst it will undoubtedly bring challenges as the COVID landscape continues to change, we are starting the year with the key message that we are here and continue to encourage, support and celebrate volunteering in our communities,” Board Chair Andrew Whiley said..
