The 14th Year of the Mount Michael Central Otago Autumn Gold Classic concluded in Central Otago last week, and tournament organisers PaR nz Golfing Holidays, on behalf of the five Central Otago golf clubs of Alexandra, Arrowtown, Cromwell, Queenstown and Wanaka, have declared it a great success.

The event was established in 2007 with the aim of showcasing that there are many great golf courses in our region, other than Jacks Point and The Hills.

It is sponsored by Mount Michael Wines and Asahi Breweries.

Now one of New Zealand’s largest multi-course amateur tournaments, it has has proven to be extremely popular with men and women kiwi golfers from Northland to Invercargill.

This year too, saw the return of a few Australian friends from pre-covid tournament days.

For the programme, five rounds are played consecutively across the various golf courses, and entries have been restricted, on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, so that 100 golfers play on any particular course per day.

The tournament has wonderful exposure for the high-quality golf courses of the region, as each player plays at all five venues.

Local members ensure that the players have a great social time, so they return to their home clubs recommending the region as a golfing destination.

For many years the local clubs managed all the organisation of the event, much of this lead by John Roche, of Alexandra, but it has now been handed over to PaR nz, who specialise in golf events in New Zealand and Internationally.

Denise Langdon, of PaR NZ says,

“It is a wonderful regional event, with each Central Otago club showing the best of hospitality.”
