Coach Willie Moore, with some of the junior squad: Dallas Paranihi, Flynn Stuart, Jackson Hughes, Angus Drinnan, Rocco Shaw, Cooper Rawcliffe, Harry Simpson

A junior golf development squad, hand-picked by Cromwell’s golf professional Willie Moore, of Moore Golf, has enjoyed a focused programme in the school holidays.

The coaching, provided by Willie, involved Cromwell College students from Years 7 to 13.  They were part of a group of young players, most of whom had received regular coaching from Moore Golf, and were chosen because of their talent and potential in the sport.

Willie says, “Around a dozen Cromwell local junior golfers were selected for the development squad to get some extra tuition to improve their skills

All participants really enjoyed the opportunity and are very thankful to Hector Egger for funding the program.”

Squad member Flynn Stuart says of the programme, “It was fun.  I had not been involved in the regular coaching, but I learned a lot.  My putting is now a lot better.  I am intending to go to Willie’s coaching sessions now.”

The programme was sponsored by Hector Egger New Zealand.  Hector Egger are relatively new to the region having recently opened their new Cromwell factory which specialises in the manufacture of high-tech timber elements and prefabricated timber panels for residential and commercial building construction. Their partnership with Swiss company Hector Egger Holzbau AG has brought world leading IP and experience to New Zealand and their company now employs over 40 full-time staff throughout Central Otago.

Director, Tristan Franklin, says, “We are very pleased to sponsor the Junior Golf Development Squad.  I enjoy playing golf myself.  Having represented New Zealand as a junior squash player, I know the value of being part of a structured development squad.”

Both Tristan and business partner Stephen Mäusli look forward to watching this talented group improve their skills in the game of golf.
