Members of the New Zealand Veterans Brass Band came together last Friday to showcase their talents and get toes tapping at Goldenview Lifestyle Village.
Formed in 2012, the band have attended Anzac Day commemorations in Belgium, France and Australia, taking part in the 100 year commemorations in 2016 in Gallipoli.
Players from across the country come together to be part of the Veterans Brass Band.
The band was scheduled to be in Australia this Anzac Day, but due to Covid-19 the visit has had to be cancelled, much to the delight of the Central Otago region.
The band played at the Wanaka civic service on Anzac Day, held at the Lake Wanaka cenotaph before finishing their tour by visiting Aspiring Lifestyle Village.
“We come together every two years and get in tune, we only have a short time to practise as we are all based in different regions,” explains band member and organiser David Leslie.
A repertoire was performed for residents of the village who thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the musical extravaganza.
The band is formed of players who are retired regular force and territorial personnel who love nothing more than coming together and playing for their audiences.
“As band members we look forward to coming together and sharing what we do.
“We always have a wonderful time and although we have a busy schedule, being able to get around the region is a very special time for us,” David adds.
Goldenview Lifestyle Village residents were thrilled to be given the opportunity to listen to the band and enjoyed the hour long performance, with many feeling very grateful to have such talented musicians visit the village and share their talents.
The band headed to Alexandra on Friday afternoon with a concert scheduled at the Alexandra District Club on Friday evening, before preparing for the Wanaka Anzac Day commemorations on Sunday and finally dispersing on Tuesday.
