Cromwell is about to be provided with a new 60-bed aged care facility, currently in the process of development by Golden View Care.  The first part of the build, 36 rest home/hospital rooms, is nearly completed, with just finishing touches to go.  This facility will provide long-term or short-term residential care.

A dementia unit puts support and homeliness first, with cooking facilities and cuppa-making options for residents and their visitors.  Each resident’s room in this area will be painted in a different colour, to help people identify their own space.

In the commercial area, fit-out of the kitchen has begun, with ovens ready for installation – an important task as the chef and catering staff will be turning out over 60 delicious meals three times a day.

Around the facility, stonework is progressing, paths laid and planting with the landscaping team is in full swing.

A bonus to this new development is that a range of local staff will be needed to cover the care and service requirements of the residents.  This will include a clinical team of registered nurses, enrolled nurses, caregivers and activities staff.  Other roles will include head chef, kitchen staff, cleaning and laundry staff, maintenance, administration and reception.

Trish Billing, village manager, says, “Not only are New Zealanders living longer, but many in their later years are living with a disability.  Golden View Care will help support this growing population and offer more beds in Central Otago.”
