Cromwell’s Isaac Thompson to represent New Zealand

It’s been a whirlwind week for Isaac Thompson from Cromwell who has been announced as a New Zealand representative in the sport of mixed martial arts.

The 18-year-old will represent the country internationally later this month as part of a team in the New Zealand Combat Sports Expo held at Eventfinda Stadium in Auckland.

Coach Jason Smith couldn’t be prouder of Isaac and puts his success down to hard training and commitment to the sport.

“It’s been a long time leading up to this, a lot of hard work.

“He has been undefeated for three years as bare-knuckle boxing champion, he carves his competitors up,” Jason says.

Isaac is thrilled to be following in the footsteps of his father James, who also represented New Zealand in the sport.

“Dad has given me some big footsteps to follow, but I’m looking forward to making him proud.

“This is a big tournament, and I can’t wait to get there.

“The sport gives you so much, it’s valuable when it comes to self-defence and gaining confidence, gets you fit, and it challenges you at every turn, I love it,” Isaac says.

Isaac trains at Hammerhead Central gym and coach Jason puts his heart and soul into getting results from his team.

He works for HireKing Cromwell, attributing the hard work of fencing to helping him with his fitness and strength and wishes to take the opportunity to thank HireKing Cromwell for their sponsorship and support, as well as fellow teammates and coach Jason Smith.

“Without the support from all these people, I couldn’t do what I love doing,” he adds.

Cromwell’s newest New Zealand representative will take on the competition on Saturday, June 26 in Auckland.
