When extra support is required, the Cromwell Community House (CCH) is on-hand to provide knowledge, technical support and time to listen.
Alongside many other services CCH also provides an important volunteer driver scheme aimed at helping those who need a little support to access public services, community facilities, social clubs, events and supported shopping.
Drivers are able to support those needing to travel to other parts of the region for certain appointments and for some, this can be a lifeline.
Working on a donation basis to help drivers with fuel expenses, the scheme provides peace of mind for the community.
CCH coordinator Karen Palmer says “The scheme is designed for people that need that extra one-to-one support, or who have limited resources.
We have nine drivers waiting to help and locals are able to access the library service through the scheme.”
Karen is also the Cromwell Neighbourhood Support coordinator and a member of the Community Patrol.
She is available for locals to pop in and discuss any concerns they have in their neighbourhoods or is able to provide information on how to get involved in Neighbourhood Support.
The Community House provides services and support to over 850 people a month. Currently there are 20 agencies using the Community House on a regular basis.
Many of these agencies are based out of town and travel to meet Cromwell clients in person.
There are up to 45 different agencies that will use the CCH in any one year.
